Our state and
national parks, faced with budget
cuts, are delaying or eliminating
many maintenance and upgrade
projects. WBCCI units are
volunteering their time at the parks
to assist park personnel with these
unfunded projects.
The Keystone PA
Unit, for the fifth year, joined the
Penna. Dept. of Conservation &
Natural Resources at French Creek
State Park for a conservation work
rally. Work projects included the
painting of one set of bathrooms and
the wood replacement on picnic
tabletops and benches, which were in
deteriorating condition. Including
the work, the unit had a great week
of Fall camping with campfires every
night and some great fellowship.
Earlier in the
Spring of this year, the Keystone
Unit assisted the National Park
Service with cleaning and upgrading
of a building at Hopewell Furnace
National Historic Site.
For our unit
members: The Park Service greatly
appreciated our efforts. Many thanks
to Don & Joan Weaver's initial
planning and coordination with both
park services. A great deal of
future planning was accomplished
around the campfire.
